The Next Generation of HBCU Leaders are Stronger Through Financial Empowerment

The future of leadership is being built today at HBCUs like Fisk University and Morgan State University, where students are gaining more than an education—they are gaining the confidence, knowledge, and opportunities needed to lead.

Through the HomeFree-USA Center for Financial Advancement® (CFA), now serving students at 15 HBCUs nationwide, young leaders are learning that financial empowerment is about far more than managing money. It is about creating choices, building wealth, strengthening communities, and developing confidence to pursue their goals without limits.

At its core, CFA helps students see themselves differently. By providing education on homeownership, financial wellness, and wealth-building, the program equips students with tools that can change the trajectory of their lives. Just as importantly, it helps them develop the mindset and self-assurance needed to step into leadership roles in their careers, communities, and beyond.

That growth is reinforced through mentorship, professional development, networking opportunities, and direct engagement with industry leaders. These experiences expose students to new possibilities, expand their professional networks, and empower them to lead with confidence. They learn that leadership is not simply a title—it is the ability to create opportunities, make informed decisions, and inspire others to succeed.

Recent CFA celebrations at Fisk University and Morgan State University highlighted the impact of this work. These events recognized students who have demonstrated dedication, growth, and leadership throughout the year while bringing together alumni, community leaders, and supporters who continue to invest in their success. The celebrations served as a powerful reminder that when students are given access, encouragement, and opportunity, they rise to the occasion.

Under the leadership of Marcia Griffin, Founder and CEO of HomeFree-USA, CFA continues to open doors for HBCU students by connecting financial education with leadership development. The result is a growing network of scholars and alumni who are prepared not only to achieve personal success but also to create meaningful change in the communities they serve.

As CFA continues to expand, so does its impact. We invite corporate partners, foundations, industry leaders, and supporters to join us in investing in the next generation of HBCU leaders. Together, we can provide more students with the knowledge, mentorship, and opportunities they need to build stronger financial futures, strengthen their communities, and lead the future with confidence.
