Roshan G.: From International Student to Homeowner—Two Times Over

When Roshan G. arrived in the United States from Nepal to study at Morgan State University, homeownership seemed like a distant dream. Growing up in Nepal, he had never learned about credit—or how central it is to achieving financial stability in America.

That all changed when Roshan enrolled in the Center for Financial Advancement® (CFA) program. Through CFA, he discovered the power of financial literacy and the role homeownership plays in building generational wealth. Equipped with this knowledge, and with support from HomeFree-USA to access down payment assistance, Roshan achieved what once felt impossible: he purchased his first home as a young student.

After graduating in 2023, Roshan’s journey came full circle when he joined HomeFree-USA as a Data Analyst. Alongside his career success, he continued building his personal financial future. Today, Roshan is not only a two-time homeowner—he has purchased his “forever home,” where he and his wife are raising their beautiful daughter. Now, he is preparing to invest in his third property.

Roshan’s success has also extended beyond his own household. His parents, who have since moved to the United States, have benefited from his financial knowledge and stability. He has even been able to provide support back home in Nepal.

Roshan’s story is a powerful testament to why the Center for Financial Advancement® exists. With the right tools, education, and guidance, students from all backgrounds can break barriers, achieve homeownership, and create wealth for their families and communities.

“Financial literacy should be part of every student’s education—no matter their degree or career path. It changed my life.” – Roshan Ghimire, CFA Scholar, Morgan State University ’23
