Highlighting the March to Black Homeownership

Wells Fargo is not only working to make sure homeownership is accessible to all groups, but they are educating communities about the disparities that exist.

Wells Fargo teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to develop the Advancing Black Homeownership Exhibit, one of the highlights at this year’s Reaching Millions Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the Money4Life Leadership Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Visitors to the exhibit were treated to an immersive experience, featuring panels, artwork, and testimonials that highlight significant topics related to Black homeownership. Themes explored include the history of redlining, discriminatory lending practices, and the wealth gap that these systemic barriers have contributed to. By walking through the exhibit, participants can reflect upon the deep-rooted disparities and consider how they can contribute to the solution.

“The Advancing Black Homeownership experience is one, an amazing exhibit, and two, an awesome journey through history,” said Chuck Bishop, Senior Vice President and Head of Diverse Segments, Home Lending for Wells Fargo. “It’s extremely meaningful but I think it also kind of rejuvenizes the work that we have to do.”

The exhibit’s purpose extends beyond raising awareness, Bishop said. It aims to galvanize communities, policymakers, and stakeholders to take concrete steps toward advancing Black homeownership. Achieving equity in homeownership is critical as homes are a primary source of wealth accumulation.

“It creates another sense of urgency that this work has got to be elevated and escalated across the industry to make a difference,” Bishop said.

We’re proud to partner with Wells Fargo.
